Fish and Boat Pine Island, Spring Hill and Brooksville to Discover the Boating Flavor of the Nature Coast

Boat and Fish Pine Island, Spring Hill, and Brooksville by Boating

Hernando County, located just north of Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater, has a wide variety of accommodations and activities guaranteed to fit any budget. And, much of the area is dedicated to family fun. Whether you’re fishing Pine Island, boating Spring Hill or taking a leisurely stroll down the streets of Brooksville, you’re sure to find something to please everyone in your group.

If you’re looking for saltwater fishing, Pine Island is a must-see. Popular game fish include snook, redfish, seatrout, grouper, snapper, cobia, mackerel, barracuda, blacktip shark, sheepshead and seabass. And, tarpon fishing originated on the island back in the late 1880’s. However, until you become familiar with the island’s estuaries and fish feeding habits, you should consider booking a charter trip with a fishing guide before you boat Pine Island alone.

After you boat Pine Island, venture over to Spring Hill, which is home to a plethora of parks including Nature Coast Botanical Gardens. The Gulf of Mexico is just two miles away to the west, with five parks that offer many different activities, including boating, fishing and nature walks. One of the parks, Weeki Wachee Springs, is famous for its live mermaid show and is Florida's only spring-fed water park. Kayaking on the Weeki Wachee River and boating Spring Hill are just two of many water-based activities to do in the area.

If you’re looking to boat, Brooksville is the place to be. Brooksville, another quaint spot in Hernando, should be your last stop in Hernando. Redfish, sea trout, grouper, sharks and bass are all plentiful in this neck of the woods. And, fishing Brooksville is a great excuse to experience this lovely historic and cultural town. During your visit, be sure to see the City Hall Art Gallery and attend the Fall Art ‘N Market Walk during the month of November.

Hernando County, part of Florida’s Nature Coast, is a perfect getaway on the Gulf of Mexico. No matter what you’re looking for – whether it be fishing Pine Island or boating Spring Hill - you’re sure to find it here.
